Massachusetts Financial Services (MFS) Investment Management

Mutual fund reports

In the spring of 1924, the founders of MFS Investment Management® invented America’s first mutual fund: Massachusetts Investors Trust (MIT). MFS now manages over $122.7 billion in assets for more than four million individual and institutional mutual fund and annuity investors worldwide.

FML provided FrameMaker and PatternStream training to MFS personnel in 1999 and set up support services. MFS has developed a FrameMaker/PatternStream database publishing solution that is used to publish its fund reports on the Internet and for print. Recently, MFS and FML worked to develop a new publishing system for MFS’s international funds.

Rainier Group Investment Advisory LLC

Personalized financial reports

Rainier Group is an investment advisory firm located in Bellevue, Washington. Unique to their approach is that they enable clients to understand their entire financial profile. That profile includes their various sources of cash flows, assets other than securities, predictable expenses, and planned capital expenditures.

FML worked with the Rainier Group to set up a system that allows them to publish their clients complete financial profiles. The client information published is obtained from four databases, spreadsheets, and other flat files.

Standard & Poor’s

Daily Newsletter and Corporate Description Directory

S & P is one of the county’s oldest and most prestigious financial service companies. Located in Manhattan’s financial district, S & P publishes electronic and print information for investors, corporations, regulators, and other customers worldwide.

FML set up a FrameMaker and PatternStream database publishing solution to publish S & P’s Daily Newsletter and Corporate Description Directory. PatternStream obtains information from an object-based Oracle database and uses FrameMaker to publish to print, PDF, HTML, and SGML.

S & P has stated that this implementation has saved them at least $1,000,000 each year in publishing costs.

European Stock Reports

Partially as a result of the completion of the very successful Daily Newsletter and Corporate Description Directory project, S & P awarded FML a Paris-based project to publish its European Stock Reports.

FML used FrameMaker, FrameViewer, and PatternStream to provide a database publishing solution for the reports. PatternStream is used to publish draft documents for review and final documents for distribution worldwide.
