PatternStream Software Updates

The current PatternStream release is version 2.3. PatternStream customers who purchased PatternStream in the last twelve months or who have purchased PatternStream Maintenance, can download and install new PatternStream versions. PatternStream Release History

PatternStream Version 2.3

XML Input/Output

Complex Element

Creates the most general type of XML element that can have parsed character data that itself contains XML elements.

Processing Instruction

A target object that inserts a processing instruction into the current XML document. Supports the generation of dynamically generated parameters for each instance.

XML Element Query (formerly XML Document Query)

Query object that selects elements from the current XML document associated with a given XML connection. The query is analogous to an XPATH expression where elements in the result node set can be from children, descendants, ancestors or siblings. Filters can be applied to the final resulting node set based on any combination of element name or attribute value.

XML Node Query

Query object that selects and node in an XML document.

New Target Objects

Graphic Inset Target

Insert a graphic directly onto an anchored or unanchored frame. This allows overlapping images where the lower image will show through transparent areas of the upper image.

Standard Chart Target

Generates a chart in either EPS or WMF format using a chart template from data retrieved from a data source that can later imported using the various graphic import objects. This also includes the PS Charting application that allows uses to create chart templates.

New Query Objects

Dynamic Query

User can type SQL syntax directly, by passing any limitations in the select query object in generating SQL syntax. The syntax can also be modified dynamically during the running of a pattern set.

User Interface

Main Dialog

Option to use a large screen set of dialogs that allow much more of the PSET hierarchy to be shown without scrolling. This option is set using the setup dialog on the PatternStream control panel.

PatternStream Console

Two new tabs have been added to the console, the variable watch tab and the lookup watch tab. You can display the value of any variable or the contents of any lookup table in the console at any time during the execution of a pattern set.

Reports

Class Report

This report displays a list of each object of a given class and its description.

Bug Fixes/Enhancements

  1. Changes made to the order of targets in a target list are automatically applied before opening a target properties dialog.
  2. There is now a copy predicate button on the where tab of a select query.
  3. The edit target lists dialog does not display when a target has only one valid target list. Clicking the create button is sufficient to create the target list.
  4. Description edit box has been added to all of the PatternStream variable dialogs.
  5. The find target menu item for the popup menu for the target list in the extension/targets tab of the main dialog now works. It now returns to the Pattern Set View tab with the desired target in the middle of the screen.
  6. The XML parser can now handle “not so well-formed” HTML syntax and elements embedded in the parsed character data.
  7. The main dialog and console dialog can be reopened during a session if they are accidentally closed with the current pattern sets still available in memory.
  8. The main dialog, console dialog and PatternStream control panel retain their current screen coordinates between sessions. These coordinates can be reset to their original default values using the new tools submenu in the PatternStream menu on the FrameMaker menu bar.
  9. Conditional predicates isolated in a compound predicate no longer generate a syntax error.
  10. The bounding box resize option now works the way it is supposed to.
  11. The format drop down boxes work for target objects attached to a PSET tree.
